Privacy policy
Last Upadated 16 August 2026
Edge & Oak ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). This policy explains what we collect, why, how we use it, and your rights.
2.1 Who we are
Edge & Oak is an online retailer of kitchen knife sharpeners and related accessories, operating from 12 Kirshner Road, Benoni AH Small Farms, 1501, South Africa. You can reach us at edgeandoak@gmail.com.
2.2 Information we collect
When you visit our store or place an order, we may collect:
- Information you give us: your name, email address, delivery address, phone number, and order details.
- Payment information: processed securely by our payment provider — see 2.4. We do not store your full card details on our systems.
- Information collected automatically: your device and browser type, IP address, and how you use our site, gathered through cookies and similar technologies (see 2.6).
2.3 Why we use your information
We process your personal information to:
- fulfil and deliver your order, and communicate with you about it;
- process payments and prevent fraud;
- handle returns, refunds and support queries;
- improve our website and products; and
- where you have consented, show you relevant advertising and (in future) send you marketing.
We only process your information where the law allows it — to fulfil our contract with you, to comply with our legal obligations, for our legitimate business interests, or with your consent.
2.4 Who we share it with
We share personal information only with trusted parties who help us run the store:
- Shopify — our e-commerce platform, which hosts our website and processes orders on our behalf.
- PayFast — our payment gateway, which securely processes your payment. PayFast is PCI-DSS compliant and handles your card data directly; we don't see or store it.
- Aramex — our courier, to deliver your order (they receive your name, address and contact details).
- Meta (Facebook/Instagram) — we use the Meta Pixel on our site to measure and target our advertising. This means certain browsing and purchase data may be shared with Meta. See 2.6.
Some of these providers process data outside South Africa. Where personal information is transferred across borders, it is protected by these providers' own safeguards and privacy commitments, as permitted under POPIA.
We do not sell your personal information.
2.5 How long we keep it
We keep your information only as long as necessary — to fulfil your order, meet legal and tax obligations, and resolve any disputes — after which it is deleted or anonymised.
2.6 Cookies & tracking
Our site uses cookies to make it work, remember your cart, understand site usage, and — through the Meta Pixel — measure and target our advertising. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work as well if you do. Where required, we will ask for your consent to non-essential cookies via a cookie banner.
2.7 Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy;
- ask us to correct or delete your information;
- object to processing, including for direct marketing; and
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
To exercise any of these, email edgeandoak@gmail.com.
2.8 Information Officer
Our designated Information Officer, responsible for POPIA compliance, is [INFORMATION OFFICER NAME], contactable at edgeandoak@gmail.com.
2.9 Complaints to the Regulator
If you believe we have not handled your information lawfully, you may complain to:
The Information Regulator (South Africa) — enquiries: inforeg@justice.gov.za · complaints: POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za · www.inforegulator.org.za
